Roch Castle, a twelfth century fortress which sits atop a rocky outcrop on the west coast of Pembrokeshire, is holding its’ first Historical Tasting Experience to captivate guests with a gastronomical journey through Welsh history.
Featuring the late medieval period, when Roch Castle was first built, the Renaissance and age of revolution, the food will reflect specific moments in time from a period of 800 years.
Taking inspiration from facts, events and recipes dating as far back as the 12th century, the modern menu will be inspired by moments from the past.
The experience is a collaboration between Head Chef, Sammy Owen and Development Chef, Gareth Evans who are part of the team behind two AA Rosette Blas Restaurant, at sister hotel, Twr y Felin, St Davids.
Originally built in 1195, the castle’s historic footprint remains intact, including the circular entrance hall with exposed rock, the strangely shaped bedroom at the very top where the myth of Adam de Rupe lives on, the aristocratic dining room and the intimate chapel.
After complete restoration in 2012, the Norman castle is now home to contemporary furnishings, enormous bath tubs, high end beds and a glorious Sun Room, with floor to ceiling glass walls, offering modern luxury within an historical setting, for self-catering groups or individual bed and breakfast guests.
Roch Castle is the perfect backdrop for this experience which will encompass food, drink, atmosphere and service. Although taste will be at the forefront, the whole experience will be enhanced by each element involved, and ensure that all of our guest’s senses are stimulated.
